No more than 30 people in public space: Obwalden tightened crown measures
In the fight against the coronavirus, the canton of Obwalden goes further than the federal government: the gathering of people in public spaces is being more restricted.
(cgl) Obwalden’s governing council has decided on several measures to contain the spread of the corona virus. He wants to reduce personal contacts and the risk of contagion, as announced by the governing council. Specifically, the following applies:
Indoor and outdoor public events are limited to a maximum of 30 people. The Federal Council had set a limit of 50 people. The central Swiss health directors (ZGDK) unanimously called for this upper limit in the consultation of the Federal Council. This upper limit does not apply to people working on the implementation of the event. Political meetings and political and civil society rallies are exempt from the restriction. The regulation applies as of November 2.
As justification, the governing council writes that the experience of contact tracing has shown that public and private events are among the main drivers of new Covid-19 infections. Therefore, a moderate limitation of the number of participants is useful and eases the work of contact tracing. The measures were agreed and coordinated between the health departments of Central Switzerland. The objective is to ensure uniform handling of regulations within the region.
The goal of the governing council is to protect the health of the population and maintain health care capacity. “For us to be successful, it is extremely important that we can quickly break the chain of infection,” the health director Maya Büchi-Kaiser is quoted in the message. At the same time, the economic impact should also be limited. You have to avoid a second blockage, also with regard to the Christmas business, which is important for many companies. Therefore, reducing the number of infections is in everyone’s interest. “With the measures prescribed by the Federal Council and the Governing Council, we want to avoid greater restrictions in our daily life. In this way, we ultimately serve our canton and our economy, ”explains Landammann Christian Schäli.
New rapid tests only for people with symptoms
Since November 2, the Federal Council approved new rapid antigen tests to determine a Covid-19 infection. As rapid tests are less sensitive, their use is only intended for people who are considered symptomatic according to the criteria of the Federal Office of Public Health and who do not belong to the highest risk. As before, access is only granted on the order of a physician.
New regulations for upper secondary schools
According to the decision of the Federal Council, the masks must also be used during the lessons next Monday at the upper secondary level. The Federal Council has not established further requirements for compulsory schooling. Protection concepts with partial mask requirement continue to be applied at Secondary level I and lessons without masks for primary school and kindergarten pupils.
