District President Elisabeth Ackermann is retiring from the race. Left Heidi Mück makes herself available.
Following the announcement by the president of the Green District, Elisabeth Ackermann, that she would no longer run in the second round of the Basel government elections, the red-green field is looking for a new candidate for the second round of voting.
In the left-wing group Basta, which forms an alliance with the Greens, co-chair Heidi Mück has agreed to step into the gap. However, the Greens and Social Democrats must also say yes to his candidacy. They decide on Tuesday night.
Bad result in the first vote
The former prime minister, Elisabeth Ackermann, announced Tuesday morning that she would no longer stand for the second ballot.
In a communication she can be quoted as saying: “I am very sorry to leave the political work that I was very happy to do. Under the circumstances, I don’t have the strength to go for a second ballot. ”Ackermann landed in ninth place on the first ballot.
Constant criticism of Ackermann
Ackermann has been the subject of constant criticism for about two years. The media accuse her of not having the rhetorical talent to hold the position of president of the government.
This year there was a scandal at the Historical Museum. Ackermann fired the successful but highly controversial director. The parliamentary review committee eventually accused Ackermann of having made mistakes during the firing and of failing to properly inform the public.
The performance record is remarkable
This “museum business” likely cost Ackerman many votes over the weekend. Harald Friedl, the chairman of the Greens party, defends Ackermann’s record. That is remarkable, but one only looked at its rhetorical shortcomings.
Left most of the government in jeopardy
For the red-green field, the second vote at the end of November is about preserving its majority, which it has held in Basel-Stadt for 16 years. Therefore, the Social Democrats and the Greens must agree to a joint candidacy in record time and succeed in selling the chosen one to the public as a valid member of the government.
The starting point of the second vote
Of the seven government seats, three are yet to be filled – five promising candidates are ready: Kaspar Sutter (SP), two newcomers Stephanie Eymann (LDP) and green liberal Esther Keller, as well as incumbent security incumbent Baschi.
