In a press release, the city of Lucerne makes it clear that no Fasnacht can take place in Lucerne in 2021. It is not yet clear how it will implement this exactly.
There are clear words that the city of Lucerne addressed to carnival enthusiasts in a press release Tuesday evening: “For the city of Lucerne, due to the current epidemiological situation and the current legal provisions of the federal and cantonal government It is clear that there will be no Carnival in Lucerne in 2021 can take place. “He registered it in a second round table with representatives of the carnival organizations. Based on the current requirements of the protection concept and assembly restrictions, carnival events are not eligible for approval.
“It is important for us to send a clear message to the outside world,” says Councilor Adrian Borgula (Greens). Because there is still hope here and there that at least one carnival night can be celebrated. He says:
“Only then would this automatically result in a street carnival and that just doesn’t work.”
This attitude did not surprise anyone at the round table, given the current situation. “If, contrary to expectations, the situation changes significantly for the better in January, the carnival people are creative enough to get something going shortly. Borgula stresses that as an active carnival fan, the decision itself hurts, “but rather there is no carnival than a theme in a very reduced form.”
However, how does the city plan to ensure that no carnival is held? You basically don’t need a permit to wander around the disguised old town in Schmudo. Borgula says:
“It is true. We must first work on legal and police implementation.”
Regarding Schmudo, Güdismontag and Güdis Tuesday, sovereignty rests with the canton. He can adjust the regulation accordingly so that no carnival activity is allowed on these days. For Rüüdige Samschtig and Shrove Sunday, the city has it in its own hands.
According to Borgula, it would be clear whether the Federal Council would extend the currently applicable ban on gatherings for more than 15 people until the end of February. “Then at least the legal situation would be clear.” However, consensus is much more important. Borgula says:
«We appeal to reason. If all the people of the carnival, the city and the canton agree that there will be no carnival in 2021, in the end only a few people will appear in the city during carnival days, and that is the goal, sadly. “
As stated in the city’s announcement, the cantonal management team informed the municipalities last Friday about the current situation regarding the carnival events. Like the cantonal management staff, the City of Lucerne also welcomes the fact that several organizers have already decided on their own not to carry out any major movements or events or to give them up entirely. It is simply unimaginable that the situation develops so positively that carnival events can be passed in February 2021. It is now also important to set clear signals and not let time-consuming preparations go nowhere.
According to the city’s announcement, the carnival organizations involved in the round table show understanding for the city’s attitude that under current conditions it is not realistic to celebrate carnival. They would now bring the most important conclusions of the discussion with them and debate them in their respective committees.
The Lozärner Carnival Committee announced the cancellation of the parades in mid-September, a little later the guilds continued their vigils, which will not take place “in the usual way”. A week ago, United announced that the monster parade and Guugger stages will most certainly not take place.
More to come …
