Many cantons have taken stricter measures to contain the coronavirus than the federal government. You can find an overview here.
The Federal Office of Public Health reported 17,440 new cases that tested positive for the corona virus in recent days. The 7-day average is 5289 cases. That’s 100 percent more than the previous week. The 7-day average positive rate is currently 22.3 percent. The BAG reports 37 new deaths. No numbers are reported over the weekend.
The SwissCovid app can help break the chains of infection. On Sunday October 25, around 1,890,000 SwissCovid applications were active.
You can find out the development of the pandemic in our charts on the number of cases in Switzerland, the occupation of intensive care units in Switzerland and the number of cases worldwide. (In some cases, the figures from the Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich are higher than the BAG figures.)

At least five corona infections temporarily paralyze the United Nations headquarters in New York. Because employees from a member state tested positive for the virus, all personal meetings of various agencies at the site on the East River were canceled. This stems from an internal letter from the President of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir. Meetings will be suspended until contact tracing is complete. According to diplomatic circles, this is an outbreak in Niger’s representation at the UN. The African country is a member of the United Nations Security Council.
Protests against government measures to contain the pandemic have broken out in Italy. Hundreds of people took to the streets in Turin and Milan on Monday night. The police used tear gas against protesters who had thrown stones and bottles.
All restaurants and bars in Italy have had to close for guests at 6pm since Monday. The opening of cinemas, theaters, gyms, swimming pools, ski resorts and concert halls is also not allowed. The majority of Italian high school students are initially taught online.
Italy has registered more than 540,000 infections detected with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. More than 37,000 people have died so far in relation to Covid 19 disease.
