- The canton of Bern is drastically tightening measures against the corona virus. In professional leagues, games will be played without spectators in the future. In addition, amateur sport is suspended. There are also ghost games in Jura and Neuchâtel.
- Sports clubs in the cantons of Freiburg, Vaud, Solothurn and Geneva can now only allow 1,000 people into their stadiums.
- The cantons of Zurich, Aargau, St. Gallen and Ticino are still awaiting restrictions.
- The relevant cantonal governments will announce it on Friday.
In French-speaking Switzerland (Friborg, Geneva, Jura, Neuchâtel and Vaud), as well as in Bern and Solothurn, large-scale events with more than 1000 people are a thing of the past for now. These cantons have again tightened the screw to contain the virus. In the cantons of Bern, Jura and Neuchâtel, spectators can no longer play. These cantons are following the example of the canton of Valais, which had already prescribed ghost games at the beginning of the week.
The Canton of Bern, like the Valais, goes one step further. In the future, competitions and training sessions for team sports will no longer be allowed in lower leagues. Public facilities such as museums, cinemas or even sports and fitness centers will be closed. The new rules apply from Saturday for the first 4 weeks. The government’s goal is to reduce contacts in the population in a specific way, explained health director Pierre Alain Schnegg.
Zurich for the moment with no further restrictions
On the other hand, Zurich sports clubs can breathe a sigh of relief for the moment. The governing council removed additional restrictions on major events on Friday. In other words: Stadiums can still be filled to two thirds, taking into account valid protection concepts. At a press conference on Friday, Government Councilor Mario Fehr explicitly stated that the Federal Council had to create a uniform solution for professional leagues.
The cantons of Graubünden, Aargau, St. Gallen and Ticino also do not believe in a 1000 limit on sands.
ZSC Lions: “No planning security”
The ZSC Lions welcome the decision in a press release, but criticize that “there is still no certainty in planning” because the Federal Council wants to decide on new measures on Wednesday, October 28. The next home game for “Z” is scheduled for Friday, October 30.
