- US President Donald Trump has repeatedly referred to the US military’s new test missiles, so-called hypersonic missiles, as hydrosonic missiles.
- Hydrosonic, however, is the name of a toothbrush from the dental hygiene brand Curaprox from Kriens in the canton of Lucerne.
- One is happy about the slip of the tongue of the President of the United States. Meanwhile, sales figures skyrocketed.
“Now we have hydrosonic missiles. We have the best military in the world, ”Donald Trump said at an election campaign event in Florida last Friday. Or in Michigan on Saturday: “You are very fast. Hydrosonic. “In Arizona Monday:” They are five to seven times faster than the fastest rocket in the world. “
Hydrosonic or hypersonic?
The president of the United States is very likely referring to the military hypersonic missiles that the Pentagon tested in March. They fly at 17 times the speed of sound, which is why the US military talks about hypersonic missiles. Trump has also called them super dumb missiles. However, contrary to what their statements suggest, these missiles are not yet fully developed.
Hydrosonic, the word Trump actually used, has nothing to do with a rocket. It is the name of an electric toothbrush from the Swiss dental hygiene brand Curaprox. This is a sonic toothbrush, but a few laps of the hypersonic brush head are missing.
More toothbrushes sold
Curaprox is a brand of the Curaden de Kriens dental hygiene group in Lucerne. The products are sold primarily through recommendations from dental hygienists. The company operates in countries around the world, including the US.
In Curaden, people are happy with the trumpet blast of words. “In addition to the sales channel through dentists, we also sell our products on Amazon,” says Steffen Müller when asked by SRF. He is responsible for the US market in Curaden. “You can see relatively quickly how sales are developing.”
And in fact: “According to media reports of Trump’s slip of the tongue, sales of the Hydrosonic toothbrush have briefly increased four to five times.” Meanwhile, the figures are not so high anymore, but the level of sales is still at a higher level than before.
A gift basket for the White House.
Müller now wants to use unintended publicity from the President of the United States to publicize the Curaprox brand in the United States. “I’ll be meeting with our ad agency soon to discuss some marketing ideas.” But there is certainly no political statement.
Steffen Müller can only speculate on whether Donald Trump ever came into contact with the Curaprox toothbrush and thus mistook the rocket for the name of his product. You don’t know if your toothbrush is in the US President’s bathroom. What is not there yet could be: “We are confident that we will send a gift basket to the White House,” says Müller.
