20 Minuten has decided to close the sports department operated jointly with Tamedia and create its own sports department. Tamedia is expected to have eight layoffs.
Previously joint teams in sport and editorial services will be split between 20 Minuten and Tamedia. The replacement will likely lead to around eight layoffs in German-speaking Switzerland.
The main affected are the employees of the Tamedia sports editorial team and the print production that have previously worked for 20 minutes. A social plan will be used for those affected, as stated in a joint press release from 20 Minuten and Tamedia on Tuesday.
In French-speaking Switzerland, as a result of the adjustments, no redundancies are currently foreseen.
Because 20 Minuten wants to focus sports reports more on its own readers, the title will establish its own sports section in German-speaking Switzerland from January 2021. For this, the services previously provided by Tamedia are also directly incorporated to print production in 20 Minuten. (sda)
