Do you think the measures in Switzerland are harsh? See what applies in these countries
The Federal Council introduced new national regulations on October 19. Wearing a mask is practically everywhere now, meetings are only possible on a small scale. However, Switzerland remains a country in Europe with few measures.
The Federal Council decided on Sunday to take new measures at the national level in the fight against the corona virus. Mask requirement expanded, meetings restricted, and home office recommended.

The measurements were the logical next step after the cantonal patchwork quilt and the rapidly increasing number of cases.

With the new regulations, Switzerland tends to have more relaxed measures than other European countries. An overview of some selected countries that are currently reporting high or rapidly increasing numbers of cases.

Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is currently one of the biggest hotbeds of the pandemic, after the country has long been considered a model student. Sunday’s nearly 80 cases per 100,000 residents are noteworthy, for comparison: Switzerland currently has nearly 25 cases per 100,000 residents. And the peak has not yet been reached in the Czech Republic.

Some of the most important rules
- Restaurants are closed
- Schools are closed
- Suspension of sporting and cultural events
- Gatherings of more than six people are prohibited
- The government asked neighboring countries like Germany if it could accept intensive care patients if necessary.

This is how it currently looks in the Czech Republic:
Germany
Germany experienced its first peak in spring, then had the situation under control, but the number of cases has risen again significantly in recent days and is now similar to March / April per 100,000 inhabitants. However, as in Switzerland, significantly fewer tests were performed.

- For example, in Baden-Wuerttemberg, which is currently one of the most affected federal states: It is mandatory to wear a mask outdoors, meetings of a maximum of 10 people.
- Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder called on Monday that there should be a national mask regulation.
Spain
Spain was greatly affected in the first wave, the second overcame this with new infections. The high number of cases now appears to have stabilized.

Italy
Italy was the first country to be hit massively, it held up well in the summer, but the number of cases has risen extremely fast in recent days.

- For the third time in less than two weeks, the government is tightening regulations over the weekend.
- A maximum of 6 people at the tables in the pubs.
- Closing time of restaurants and bars with table service at midnight, bars without seats: 6:00 p.m.
- The dance halls are closed
- Schools in Campania closed
- Private celebrations are prohibited. A maximum of 30 people is allowed after ceremonies such as weddings / funerals
France
France was one of the first major European countries to enter the second wave. Cities in particular are hotspots here, so measures have been increased there.

Austria
Austria was considered a model student, as tough measures were quickly taken in the spring. However, the number of cases has increased significantly over a few weeks.

- Mandatory mask at internal events, for example, also in schools outside your own classroom
- Private celebrations indoors with a maximum of 10 people, outdoors with 100
- Curfew in some federal states at 10 p.m.
- With Kuchl (around 7,000 inhabitants), an entire village was quarantined

Britain
Britain tried from the beginning to weather the crisis of the crown without great rules. The shot backfired. However, for a few days, the number of infections has again become significantly higher.

- In England there is a kind of traffic light system with three levels
- Wales closings 23 Oct-9 Nov – pubs and restaurants are closed, only grocery stores can stay open
- Level 1: curfew at 10pm, private meetings with a maximum of 6 people
- Level 2: Also, members of different households can no longer meet inside
- Level 3: No more outdoor gatherings, pubs and bars, entertainment centers and betting offices have to close (currently applies in the Liverpool / Manchester region)
Belgium
In the second wave, Belgium is one of the most affected countries for every 100,000 inhabitants. In recent days, the numbers have dropped again, so the Belgians may have already passed the peak.

- Mask requirement in stores and in the market
- Mask requirement in restaurants
- Private meetings at home or outdoors with a maximum of 4 people (no children under 12 years old)
- Discos and clubs are closed
- Partial curfew from midnight to 5 a.m. and restaurants in Brussels, for example, had to close for four weeks
Netherlands
Like Belgium, the Netherlands also weathered the first wave reasonably well. Now the number of cases is skyrocketing.

- In Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, emergency rooms had to be closed temporarily because beds were full or staff were not available.
- Partial closure: pubs, cafes and restaurants are closed
- It is forbidden to sell alcohol after 8 pm
- Receive a maximum of three guests per day in your own apartment
- Use buses and trains only in urgent cases
Israel
Finally, a look at Israel, where the second wave has subsided. The country imposed a harsh second blockade for four weeks. Citizens were not allowed to go more than a kilometer from their own homes, schools and shops were closed.

The first openings are valid from Sunday. Among other things, the previous rules have been repealed. In addition, beaches and natural parks have been reopened and restaurants are allowed to offer take away service.
Israel was a model country. The first summer openings were probably too fast, so the second wave hit early.
