What a start: Marco Odermatt (2nd) and Gino Caviezel (3rd) are on the giant slalom podium in Sölden.
The podium
- 1. Lucas Braathen (NOR) 2:14, 41 minutes
- 2. Marco Odermatt (SUI) +0.05
- 3. Gino Caviezel (SUI) +0.46
It was an almost perfect start to the Swiss ski season. Only Lucas Braathen avoided a double Swiss win in the first men’s giant slalom race. Despite a mistake, the 20-year-old Norwegian prevailed ahead of Marco Odermatt and Gino Caviezel and celebrated his first victory and first podium of his career.
After Odermatt had been seventh intermediate in race 1, he had a sensational race 2 and beat 5 competitors with the fastest time. Nidwalden had 5 hundredths of a second left to win. It is the fifth podium of the World Cup for Odermatt.
Caviezel, in the lead after the 1st lap, forgave the victory with a mistake at the top. At the bottom, however, Graubuenden came up a lot and pushed Alexis Pinturault (FRA) to fourth place. It is the first podium of the World Cup for Caviezel, 28.
The other Swiss:
- 5. Loïc Meillard +0.56
- 11. Justin Murisier +1.38
- 20. Daniel Seven +2.27
Loïc Meillard, Justin Murisier and Daniele Sette completed an extremely successful result for the Swiss team. Everyone could improve again in the second round.
Meillard went from sixth to fifth in the final. Murisier even took 6 spots and was out of the top ten. Sette was able to secure a positive exclamation point with the starting number 36. The Engadin was a good 20.

The additional program
Like women, men now have a longer period without a career ahead. The ski entourage will only meet in 4 weeks for the next competitions. On November 13, Lech (AUT) continues with a parallel slalom.
