Pauline Ferrand-Prévot wins gold at the Ticino European Championship. Sina Frei is the best Swiss woman 5.
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot’s career continues: after last week’s world championship, the Frenchwoman also won the gold medal in cross-country at the European mountain bike championship in Ticino. The podium was completed by Anne Terpstra (NED) and Yana Belomoina (UKR).
Already after the second of 5 laps, Ferrand-Prévot was ahead of the competition at the Monte Tamaro circuit. The 28-year-old confidently carried the lead to the end. Terpstra, second classified, already lost 40 seconds to the French.
Long free time with podium chances
Meanwhile, the Swiss missed a medal at the European home championships. Sina Frei was fifth, 1:39 minutes ago, Frei could dream of a podium for a long time, as she was involved in the battle for third place.
In the end, however, there was no strength for a feat. I fought well. I tried everything to keep up with the other drivers, but today they were stronger, “said Frei after the race.
As expected, Jolanda Neff did not play a role in the battle for the medal table. Ten months after the ruptured spleen and lung collapse in a training crash in the USA and 2 weeks after the health problems at the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Neff was left behind in the first round and then he gave up.
