ZSC Lions victorious in blockbuster against Bern – Zug defeated in season one

The latest ranked winners, ZSC Lions, top the ice hockey table for the first time this season. The ZSC Lions defeated Bern 3-0 and benefited from Zug’s first loss.
The Hallenstadion setting was just right. 7600 spectators celebrated the 90th anniversary of the Zurich ice skating club as ZSC defeated SC Bern 3-0 in retro jerseys. The Lions took the lead after 138 seconds through Raphael Prassl and finally won thanks to another brilliant goalkeeper performance from Ludovic Waeber (37 saves). Waeber (wins 4-0) is about to overtake Lukas Flüeler (2 losses in 2 games) in Zurich.
After Lugano and Zug, the ZSC Lions are now the third team at the top of the table as EV Zug lost 3-0 to Lausanne for the first time. After two weeks of the championship, each team has lost at least once.
Due to the current coronavirus quarantine of the Freiburg-Gottéron and Lugano clubs, only four instead of six were on the program. And only a few goals fell in these games, most of them in the basement match between the SCL Tigers and Ambri-Piotta (3: 2 nV). At Langnau, the Emmentaler drew 2-2 through Robbie Earl just 64 seconds before the end without a goalkeeper. Erik Brännström even claimed Langnau’s first win of the season eleven seconds before the penalty shoot-out.

Zug – Lausanne 0: 3
After two weeks there is no longer a team in the ice hockey championship with a clean slate. EV Zug lost 3-0 at home to Lausanne.
Zug had won the first three games with luck and skill against the Lakers (3: 2 / a), Lugano (3: 2 / a) and Bern (2: 1 / h), all with a goal difference. The fact that the offense did not “play” as intended was hidden by the results. Immediately after the contract extension with coach Dan Tagnes (until 2024), offensive deficiencies were punished against Lausanne.
The Vaudois allowed very little. Two goals immediately before and after the first break decided the match. At the head, the LHC focused almost exclusively on managing leadership.
The revolutionary blows came in 137 seconds. With 76 seconds left in the first period, Cory Emmerton gave the visitors the lead. 61 seconds after the first break, Brian Gibbons rose to 2: 0 after preliminary work by Charles Hudon, whose eligibility had only just arrived on Friday. With 116 seconds to go, Hudon finally secured the 3-0 victory in Lausanne with a shot on empty goal.
Only with the first loss in mind, the EV Zug was able to increase the pressure. Lausanne goalkeeper Tobias Stephan (33 parades), as a witch, assured that the points went to Lausanne. Stephan stopped 15 shots in the second section alone.

SCL Tigres – Ambri 3: 2 nV
The SCL Tigers reached their first win of the season thanks to an impressive 3-2 finish after extra time against Ambri-Piotta. Only HC Davos have not won a match this season.
The Langnauers were 1: 2 behind until 64 seconds before the end, after Michael Fora and Julius Nättinen (in their first game in Switzerland) shot Leventines in the second section with a double in 91 seconds. Robbie Earl tied in the final on a 6v4 outfield player. In overtime, Ambri played for the first time for nearly two minutes before newly signed NHL defender Erik Brännström (Ottawa) scored the winning goal eleven seconds before overtime ended.

The SCL Tigers pulled off an impressive reaction to the 1: 8 matador on Thursday night in Geneva. Goalkeeper Gianluca Zaetta (25 saves) scored his first victory in the National League.

Rapperswil – Napkins 2: 1 nV
Thanks to Melvin Nyffeler (40 stops) and Roman Cervenka (third goal of the season), the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers won the intense and great game against Geneva-Servette after falling behind until the 43rd minute with 2-1 in extra time.
Goalkeeper Nyffeler won the goalkeeping duel against Gauthier Descloux (30 saves). He stole two points for the Lakers. In ice hockey, points are “stolen” when the victorious goalie makes at least 10 more saves than the other.

Igor Jelovac tied Denis Smirnovs 1-0 for the Lakers in the 43rd minute. Roman Cervenka decided the game after 37 seconds of extra time. For the Czech, it was already the fifth goal in extra time in Switzerland.
The Genève-Servette Hockey Club can now go into voluntary self-isolation: the Genevans will not play their next game against Bern until October 27 at home.
