Suddenly things are going fast now. The rapid increase in the number of infections is causing the federal government and the cantons to decide on drastic measures over the weekend and put them into effect immediately. Therefore, the Federal Council will be one on Sunday morning at 11 am Extraordinary meeting enact a uniform national mask requirement for indoors and a restriction for private events and gatherings. There will also be a general recommendation for the home office again. The measures should be applied from Monday.

In this way, the cantons cede control in this area to the federal government. Cantonal health directors decided on the corresponding procedure on Friday at a board meeting in the presence of Health Minister Alain Berset. The measures have yet to be formally approved by the cantons in a quick consultation.
