“Indoor public spaces also mean bars and restaurants” – Eastern Swiss health directors propose these common standards to governments

The health directors of the cantons of Eastern Switzerland (AI, AR, GL, GR, SG, SH, TG and the Principality of Liechtenstein) propose a package of measures to their governments to combat the coronavirus. This includes, among other things, a mask requirement at private events.

Migros, for example, is also one of the “public access spaces”.

(Tennessee) Many infections are currently occurring at public and private events, according to a press release from health directors in eastern Switzerland. Very often the minimum distance is not respected. “Infected people transmit the coronavirus to people with whom they live in homes (families),” the message literally reads. Based on this finding, specific measures and common standards should be used to try to contain the virus:

  • Protective mask requirement in public and private events with a minimum of 30 participants.
  • Dance ban, but without closing of clubs and party halls.
  • Consummation in catering establishments it must take place in a fixed seat.
  • A general requirement of protective mask in the interior spaces of public access, the cantons decide autonomously.

Upon request, Thomas Zuberbühler, Head of Communication of the Canton of St. Gallen, specifies the proposed measures: “Regarding the general obligation to wear protective masks in indoor areas accessible to the public, the Conference of Health Directors of the Cantons of Eastern Switzerland (GDK) does not make any recommendation to cantonal governments. ”

Public access interiors are all rooms that are open to everyone. More precisely:

“This also includes bars, restaurants or Migros.”

Zuberbühler could not say how the cantonal government of St. Gallen feels about the obligation to wear a mask. So much: at the extraordinary government meeting tomorrow everything will be discussed, including the requirements for the masks.

Go ahead

As also indicated in the communication, the health directors of the eastern Swiss cantons will now present these proposals to the individual cantonal governments. They are free to adopt different measures depending on the epidemiological situation. “The cantons of Eastern Switzerland will inform you about the decisions taken by the middle of next week at the latest.”

Liechtenstein tighten screws

Meanwhile, the Principality of Liechtenstein is not waiting for the cantons of Eastern Switzerland and is tightening the crown’s rules with immediate effect: private parties with more than 30 people must submit a concept of protection. In restaurants, the maximum size of guest groups per table will also be reduced to six, as the state government announced Thursday. Additionally, restaurant employees must wear a mask in the serving area.

On occasions when the minimum distance cannot be maintained, dividers should be placed or masks should be worn. “Now it is up to all of us to use discipline and common sense to keep the number of new infections as low as possible,” the government appeals to the population. This is the only way to avoid further measures.
