The numbers are impressive: after beating Liechtenstein 3-0 in Biel, the Under-21 team has 24 points and a goal difference of 23: 4 after 8 games.
This means that the first place in the qualifying group is not yet certain. Because France (8 games, 21 points) can still catch up with Switzerland in the last two games.
But much more important is: EM’s ticket for the 2021 final can no longer be removed from the SFV selection. Because the five best runners-up in the group also qualify for the tournament in Slovenia and Hungary. And in this ranking, Switzerland is already on the safe side.
Liechtenstein too limited
It was not a gala performance that the Swiss gave against Liechtenstein. Especially in the first half, Mauro Lustrinelli’s team was a bit unimaginative on offense.
However, he never took the risk of conceding points to his opponent, who was largely made up of first division players. Liechtenstein, coached by former FCZ and FCSG player Martin Stocklasa, acted too harmlessly.
Guillemenot is early, wonderful Sidler
The early 1-0 through a header from Jérémy Guillemenot in minute 4 was already a preliminary decision. And at the latest after Andi Zeqiri’s ninth qualifying goal in the 42nd minute, the match was over.

After the final qualification for the European Championship, the first since 2011, the U21 team can face their last two games for free. On November 12, the next opponent will be in Thun Azerbaijan. Four days later, they are likely to win in Group 2 against France in Caen.
