After a heated match, the situation worsened. When the final whistle sounds, no one will be able to stop it. Players of FC Tetova Basel and SC Basel Nord C, also known as FC Eri Basel, attack each other on the Rankhof sports ground in Basel. Even the corner posts are used as weapons. The fifth division game on October 4 ends in a savage brawl and a police operation.
SC Basel Nord is apparently the only culprit for the excess of violence. The Football Association of Northwest Switzerland (FVNWS) only punished this club, with various sanctions. Among them: the exclusion of the autumn round.
“We accept it because we take our share of responsibility seriously,” says Michael Heutschi, president of SC Basel Nord, to “bz.” But they will defend themselves against another punishment. Heutschi himself was not there when the fists flew. But one thing is clear to him: “A dispute like this always requires two parties. They were both involved in the climb. ”
The referee was insulted and attacked.
FC Tetova Basel sees it differently, very differently. You see yourself as a “victim of a malicious and unprecedented incident”, as the club writes in a statement on Facebook. The Swiss Northwest Football Association’s decision to reprimand only SC Basel Nord does not surprise them, “as we were not guilty of anything.”
It all escalated because SC Basel Nord fans insulted the referee after a decision and finally attacked. Fatmir Osmani, president of FC Tetova, tells the “bz”: “We just wanted to protect him.”
The Basel prosecutor is investigating what exactly happened, who is to blame and how. She is investigating suspicions of fighting and assault against several people. (hmh)
