The Basel autumn fair was canceled this year due to the corona pandemic. That broke the hearts of many trade show fans. The Jonasch Confiserie did not want this to happen without a hunch and unceremoniously opened a pop-up shop. And not just anywhere, but in the heart of Basel, at Barfüsserplatz.
“It was a shock!”
Gian Jonasch, deputy general manager, received the bad news that the fall fair would be canceled during a meeting: “There was pain in the air. We did not know how to deal with this situation. The fall fair is a tradition for many. It was a shock! ”Says Gian. But making a fist or simply giving up was never an option for the entrepreneur. “We think we should act now and not react. So I cycled through town at night, looking for an empty storage space. So I came across this space by chance, thankfully! ».
Pop-up store in Barfi until the end of December
For three more months, the inhabitants of Basel can enjoy the smell of roasted almonds in the streets. Until then, Jonasch is standing in the barfi with his copper kettle, burning almonds and bringing the “Heerbschtmäss-Gfüühl” back to town.
At the weekend there was already a line in front of the Jonasch stand. (Image: Telebasel)
