After another crown test, the Spanish health authority gave the green light for the creative player to work on Saturday.
The deciding factor for Spain’s decision was the national player’s additional negative Covid-19 test, which has been available from Friday evening, the Swiss Football Association said. Besides Shaqiri, all the players and staff members of the Swiss national team in Madrid also tested negative.
“Not infectious”
Shaqiri had tested positive for the corona virus earlier this week. Then another test came back negative. According to team physician Martin Maleck, “it is not one hundred percent contagious.” The positive test was due to a previous infection.
Due to the positive test, the Liverpool mercenary missed the friendly against Croatia on Wednesday. The trip to Spain began after the second negative test.
Wear on a birthday?
For Shaqiri, the game against Spain on his 29th birthday would be his 83rd international game and the first appearance on the national team since June 2019.
