- Rafael Nadal (ATP 2) wins the ticket for the final in Paris with a 6: 3, 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 0) against Diego Schwartzman (ATP 14).
- The Mallorcan rival is determined between Novak Djokovic (ATP 1) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 6).
At the end of the third set things suddenly happened quickly: Rafael Nadal barely made mistakes in the tie-break, his rival Diego Schwartzman could no longer maintain the level shown previously. The world number 2 decided the quick decision with zero in his favor.
Schwartzman had previously challenged Nadal to the full in the third set – the favorite had to accept a rebreak twice. While Thiem’s conqueror Schwartzman climbed better, Nadal slackened a bit. But in the tie-break he immediately proved why the French Open is his absolute favorite tournament.
Nadal dominant at the beginning
Schwartzman tried everything: the Argentine distributed the balls, was agile on his feet and played close to his best tennis. But Sand King Nadal always had the advantage in rounds 1 and 2. The 12-time Roland Garros winner was particularly convincing on the longest rallies.
Despite strong resistance, Nadal apparently easily made it 2-0 in sets. But then Schwartzman’s improvement followed and Nadal couldn’t play his game as usual. This made the game more exciting, but the favorite still prevailed.
Tsitsipas challenges Djokovic in the second semi-final
Nadal’s opponent has yet to be determined. Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic faces Stefanos Tsitsipas. You can follow the game live on SRF Zwei and on the SRF Sport app.
