4 things that caught the attention of BAG boss Lévy at the premiere
Just as BAG reports new record crown numbers, the new boss appears in front of the media for the first time. These points were particularly notable.
The new warning color
Due to the dizzying number of cases, the BAG has had an orange alert since Friday. Because the Corona campaign color changes from blue to orange. However, the Federal Office of Public Health does not announce new measures, restrictions or recommendations.
What’s the point of changing color? “The color orange is supposed to really say that it is now important to comply with the measures,” explains new BAG director Anne Lévy.
The color change has a clear signal effect and a serious situation reminder function, adds BAG campaign manager Adrian Kammer. The posters have been downloaded 1.5 million times since the pandemic began.

Lévy has barely taken over as the new head of BAG when the number of corona cases skyrockets again. Consequently, one was excited for his first appearance in front of the media. At the start of the press conference, Lévy, 48, was visibly nervous. “Aaah, ääähm”: The successor to the colorless predecessor Pascal Strupler got tangled up several times at first and seemed nervous. Little by little she took the curve and it seemed the longer, the safer.
A journalist wanted to hear from Lévy how she felt and if she saw herself as a problem solver. As a boss, you always do that. “I am rested and full of energy,” said the former director of the Basel University Psychiatric Clinics. It’s an advantage for her that she hasn’t had to deal with Corona all year. Because some employees are gradually being exhausted due to great stress. Good to see that excellent work had been done prior to his time at BAG. “I can take advantage of that.”

Women at the Crown Front

At BAG, women set the standard when it comes to Corona. With new head Anne Lévy, Virginie Masserey (Head of Infection Control), Nora Kronig (Head of International Affairs) and Katrin Holenstein (Head of Communication), four female leaders appeared in front of the media on Friday. “The number of cases is increasing rapidly, and throughout Switzerland, that worries us”: Lévy spoke in simple language and did not confuse.
Until early summer, “Mr. Crown »Daniel Koch the public image of the BAG. Koch retired in the early summer and handed the scepter to Daniel Kuster (43). He didn’t like this breakout role at all, so Kuster threw in the towel after a few months.
Therefore, the new director of BAG announced organizational changes at the beginning of the press conference. “We are well positioned to dominate the next few months, even if it may take longer.” The burden is spread over several shoulders, a new «Mrs. or Mr. Corona “will probably no longer exist in its former form.
The “impotence” of the federal government
The unrest in the population is growing in view of the dizzying number of cases. Anyone who expected new measurements or instructions from BAG waited in vain. Because since the end of the “extraordinary situation”, the cantons and no longer the federal government have had to lead the way in the fight against the crown.
The cantons are “in the lead,” said Lévy. But the BAG is in daily contact with the cantons: “We work together and we complement each other.” Virginie Masserey, head of the Infection Control Section of the FOPH, also emphasized that it is up to the cantons to take whatever measures they consider appropriate and sensible.
Lévy is preparing the population for more exhausting months. “Coping with the pandemic is still a marathon. It takes a lot of perseverance and discipline to deal with the pandemic.
