Nico Hischier No. 1 Pick: Those were the days from a Swiss perspective, back in 2017. In the current NHL draft, local players were left empty-handed.
This was the last time in 2005 and 2009. Last season, Valentin Nussbaumer (Arizona) was still represented by a Swiss.
Canadian winger Alexis Lafrenière (18) was the first to be selected by the New York Rangers in this year’s North American talent selection.
Two German-speaking players, the German Tim Stützle and the Austrian Marco Rossi, were considered in the first round, but not the players with a Swiss passport. And this was maintained until the seventh round, with the 31 clubs committed to 217 players.
HCD is still in the crowns
Consequently, Simon Knak, who had been allowed to give himself chances, was no longer brought into the rear positions. The wing has a contract with Portland in the WHL, but currently plays for HC Davos.
