Dominic Stricker from the Bernese Oberland and Leandro Riedi from Zurich want to seize their last chance at the French Open for a Grand Slam title among juniors.
Young Swiss tennis players are not lacking in self-confidence. “I said before the tournament: a Swiss final would be great,” reveals 18-year-old Leandro Riedi. And Dominic Stricker, who is the same age, thinks, “Yes, why not?”
Swiss junior titles have a certain tradition at the French Open. Heinz Günthardt (1976) and Stan Wawrinka (2003) won in men, Martina Hingis (1993 and 1994), Belinda Bencic (2013) and Rebeka Masarova (2016), who now plays for Spain, won in women.
Stricker and Riedi can also dream of a big hit, because neither of them have lost a set in their three victories en route to the quarterfinals. This is not a surprise: in their age group, they are number 10 and 11 in the world.
