- The World Economic Forum (WEF) takes place in the Bürgenstock high above Lake Lucerne.
- It was previously announced that the WEF would not take place in Davos due to the crown crisis.
- Instead of winter, the WEF will take place in May next year.
The WEF World Economic Forum arrives in Central Switzerland: the meeting of high-ranking politicians and businessmen will take place from May 18 to 21, 2021 in Bürgenstock. His motto is “The Great Reboot”.
The forum will take place “as long as the health and safety of the participants can be guaranteed,” the organizers announced Wednesday. In September it was announced that the meeting would not be held in Davos next year.
The meeting in Central Switzerland is about the reboot after the time of Covid-19. Leaders around the world should work on a common plan for rebuilding. The event will include both face-to-face meetings and digital elements, according to the press release.
The Nidwalden government is pleased
The Nidwalden government welcomes the decision that the WEF will take place next year in Bürgenstock. “We are convinced that the recently expanded Bürgenstock Resort, with its modern infrastructure, is ideal for an international event of this magnitude,” says Othmar Filliger, Nidwalden’s Chief Financial Officer.
They want to help the organizers. Safety issues for the participants and the public will play an important role. Clarifications are already being made in this regard.
In addition to the WEF and those responsible for the Bürgenstock, the Canton of Lucerne also participates, as part of the program will take place in their area.
Hope for a boost in tourism
The governments of Lucerne and Nidwalden hope that the World Economic Forum will also have a tourism effect. Lucerne District President Reto Wyss: “The event corresponds to the objective of further developing Lucerne tourism in terms of quality. This goal, the focus on high-quality and sustainable tourism, was expressly formulated by political and tourist circles in connection with the crown crisis. “
Great joy in Nidwalden and Lucerne. But: The WEF in Bürgenstock should only be a detour to the region. The WEF is scheduled to return to Davos in 2022.
