- The doctors of the president of the United States, Trump, are optimistic: if the Covid patient continues well, he will soon be able to leave the hospital.
- Sean Conley, Trump’s personal physician, admits that the president’s condition was more serious than initially presented.
- Trump had a high fever Friday morning and his blood oxygen saturation had dropped. During this time they gave him oxygen.
If Trump continues to do as well as he did Sunday, “we hope we can plan for discharge to the White House tomorrow,” said Dr. Brian Garibaldi in front of Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, near Washington. Treatment could continue there.
Trump’s personal physician, Sean Conley, admitted that the president’s oxygen levels dropped twice during the course of the illness. Conley said Friday morning that Trump had a high fever and his blood oxygen saturation had dropped below 94 percent. Trump received extra oxygen for about an hour. At Saturday’s press conference, Conley had sidestepped this question several times.
On Saturday, Trump’s oxygen saturation fell back to around 93 percent. When asked if the president had been given oxygen again, Conley said the nursing staff should be asked.
Garibaldi said that due to the temporary drop in oxygen, Trump would be given the steroid dexamethasone in addition to the other drugs.
“No major clinical concerns”
When asked if the infection had affected Trump’s lungs, Conley said: “There are some expected findings, but nothing of great clinical concern.” Dr. Sean Dooley said Trump did not have a fever. All values are stable.
Trump received his second infusion of the drug Remdesivir on Saturday without complications: It inhibits an enzyme in viruses that is necessary for them to multiply. Conley had promised five days of remdesivir treatment.
Trump, 74, was taken to the military hospital by helicopter on Friday night, less than 24 hours after his positive corona test.
The campaign manager also tested positive
After Trump’s infection, more and more infections are known in his environment. Trump’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, also tested positive for the virus, as confirmed by the campaign team.
A month before the presidential election on November 3, the Republican’s face-to-face appearances have been canceled until further notice. Trump’s challenger, Democrat Joe Biden (77), continues his election campaign.
