Those in charge of the Serie A league insist that Sunday night’s main match between Juventus and Napoli will take place as planned. But those responsible for the guests see things very differently.

“The Lega Serie A confirms that the match between Juventus and Napoli for the 3rd week of Serie A will continue as scheduled on October 4 at 8:45 pm,” the league announced.

According to media reports on Saturday, the arrival of the Napoli delegation by plane was prohibited by an order from the local health authority ASL, which in this case would invalidate the existing Series A protocol.

But now a dispute has arisen over how the content of the document should be interpreted. League officials take the position that there is no express travel ban or direct quarantine measure for (uninfected) players.

Reference is also made to its protocol, which was drawn up for the crown crisis. He says rapid tests are performed on athletes four hours before the game, and those who test negative can play and then go back to the “bubble.” Serie A and UEFA protocols also state that a game can take place as long as a team has 13 players, including at least one goalkeeper.

Other teams such as Milan, Atalanta or Torino have also registered positive cases in the recent past, but none of them have been banned from traveling or participating in matches. Instead, they simply entered a “bubble” to limit the risk of the virus spreading outside the club. However, players that tested negative can (d) be used.

Southern Italians see it differently: “The warning from the health authority takes precedence: state law prevails over sports law,” argued Napoli’s lawyers in the “Gazzetta dello Sport”.

So both parties disagree on how to proceed. Genoa’s match against AC Turin, which should have taken place on Saturday, was officially postponed. The home team had 22 cases, including 17 players. Many of them played against Napoli last weekend (6-0 loss). Therefore, it is quite possible that Piotr Zielinski and Elif Elmas infections can be traced back to this game.

According to league officials, the current status is clear: if Gennaro Gattuso’s team is not present in Turin tonight, Juventus will receive a 3-0 forfait victory.
