Only on the farm team: the ZSC Lions continue to dispense with Pius Suter
The league’s top scorer, Pius Suter (24), is playing for the GCK Lions and not the ZSC Lions against Friborg-Gottéron tonight. A mission with the ZSC Lions has not yet been planned.
The ZSC Lions lost to zero in the first game of the season in Lugano – 0: 4. Attacking modernization would be necessary and possible: the league’s top scorer from last year, Pius Suter (50 games / 53 points), could play today against Friborg-Gottéron. But sporting director Sven Leuenberger does without him and says: “He will play with our farm team.” The GCK Lions play Thurgau on the road in the season opener.
Reason for resignation: Pius Suter has to come back soon. Says Leuenberger: “The start of NHL camp is scheduled for November 17th. Chicago wants the players in town two weeks in advance. That means Pius Suter will leave us at the end of October. “A serve with the ZSC Lions would only become a problem if the start of the NHL was postponed:” If the NHL doesn’t start until January, we will reassess the situation. “
The explosive regulation of foreigners
It’s interesting in this context: Because Pius Suter is moving to the NHL due to an ongoing contract, the Zurich-based company may replace him with a fifth foreign. If Suter must now play a few games for the ZSC Lions, can he still be replaced by an additional foreigner after moving to North America? “Yes,” says Sven Leuenberger. The rule is clear: “In theory, we could let him play a round with us, use the GCK Lions in the next game, and let a fifth foreigner run for him with the ZSC Lions.”
The reason: Suter has a contract with Chicago and is only loaned to the ZSC organization. If he doesn’t play, the people of Zurich have the right to play with five foreigners. What would be feasible: There are currently six foreign players under contract in Zurich: Canadian Tyler Benson and Finn Teemu Rautiainen (currently injured) with the farm team, Canadian Maxim Noreau, Swedes Marcus Krüger and Frederik Pettersson and American Garett Roe with the ZSC.
