Double suffering
Corona makes life difficult for many carnivals. Not only that carnival, as it is loved and known, cannot take place. Even the hours of practice are extremely difficult. Many cliques and Guggenmusiken are drawn. But residents are complaining and the cold season is just around the corner.
Now, through an interpellation, the vice-president of the Basel PLD, Michael Hug, asks that the exhibition halls, among other things, be used for training sessions. “At the moment, it’s just the case at the show that they don’t need the space and secondly, they have very large rooms,” Hug said Thursday. The demand was also said to be too great. It would mean that the fair would have to choose individual cliques that would be allowed to rehearse in their halls. Several cliques couldn’t rehearse at the same time anyway, due to the layout of the room, without acoustically disturbing each other.
The final argument of the fair is maintenance. “Using the rooms for training purposes is associated with a great deal of administrative and personnel effort, in addition to considerable additional costs for energy, etc. and cleaning”, a user of the room would not have the opportunity to open and close the room himself. The operation of the ship requires a management of the MCH Group for each use.
Hope remains
The exhibition halls are not the only space that could be made available to carnivals. “In my interpellation, I also asked about the rooms in the school buildings,” says Hofer.
Rehearsing in school buildings is already normal for many cliques in Basel, so school classrooms are in demand at the moment. Many school buildings are already complete.
