Trump declares winner of television debate with Biden: “won easily”
After the television duel with his challenger Joe Biden, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, declared himself the winner of the first debate before the presidential elections. “We won the debate last night by any standard,” the Republican said Wednesday on the White House lawn.
Looking at Biden, who is running for Democrats on November 3, Trump said: “I think he was very weak. He seemed weak, he complained. “Trump said he would also have the next two television debates against Biden. If his challenger does not want to participate, that is his decision.
“Shame on the country”
Trump said he saw “about six” polls that saw him as the winner of the debate. It was not clear which polls he was referring to. In some Twitter polls, which are considered unreliable without a scientific basis, Trump was ahead. However, in blitz polls on CBS and CNN, a majority saw Biden as more successful in the debate than Trump.
The debate was dominated by chaos and personal attack. Trump especially interrupted Biden over and over again and didn’t let him finish. Biden described Trump’s appearance on Wednesday as an “embarrassment to the country.” The organizers announced changes in the concept of television duels.
The process made clear that “the format of the remaining debates needs additional structure to ensure a more regular discussion of the issues,” said the Committee on Presidential Debates.
Tuesday night’s television debate in Cleveland, Ohio, was the first between Trump (74) and Biden (77). Two more debates are planned for October 15 in Miami, Florida and October 22 in Nashville, Tennessee. Vice-candidates Mike Pence (Republican) and Kamala Harris (Democrat) will meet on October 7 in Salt Like City, Utah. (sda / dpa)
