Around 11:50 pm, a driver drove on the main road in Derendingen in the direction of Kriegstetten. However, when turning right, he drove straight ahead and crashed head-on into the facade of a residential and commercial building.
The called first responders could only have found the 29-year-old driver’s death at the scene, Solothurn canton police said.
Property was seriously damaged by the force of the impact; the driver must have been traveling at high speed. The masonry shows deep cracks, the glass of the entrance door to a shop is shattered. No slip marks were visible.

On Wednesday night, shortly before midnight, a driver died in Derendingen, Solothurn. The 29-year-old Portuguese lost control of his vehicle in a right turn and crashed head-on into the wall of a house. Rescuers could only determine the man’s death.

Static had to be evaluated
The Mercedes had to be left where it was stopped until the building was statically assessed and secured. The car involved in the accident was only towed around 9 a.m.
Police secured the crash site overnight. The corresponding investigations were initiated to clarify the course of the accident. In addition to the police and prosecutors, the Biberist and Derendingen fire brigades were in action.
The new J + S Support store was due to open in the building on October 19. The owners are now considering moving everything. While the showcase remained intact, the door certainly needs to be repaired. (pks / ldu)
