- As is often the case, the SCL Tigers lose their first game of the season at 2: 5 in Lausanne.
Ice hockey had not been played in the National League for a full 211 days. On Thursday the new championship was launched with 4 matches from the 7th round. In Bern, 6,750 spectators followed the game. In Freiburg (5160 fans), Lausanne (4518 fans) and Lugano (3426 fans), many noisy spectators ensured a good atmosphere. So were the opening games:
Lugano – ZSC Lions 4: 0
The ZSC Lions in Lugano had to find out that friendlies and the championship are two different things. The winner of the qualifying from the last season that was canceled had won all nine rounds in preparation. At the start of the season, the Zurich team lost a 4-0 loss at Resega.
In general, the disappointing Lions played too loosely and were hardly dangerous as a result. Very different in Lugano: The “Bianconeri” took the lead in the 9th minute through Dario Bürgler deservedly in the power game. The new signings of Daniel Carr and Luca Fazzini increased to 3: 0 until the middle of the game – the Lions could not react adequately.
On the Zurich side, Königstransfer Sven Andrighetto was only able to perform a few stages in the last third. In Lugano, double scorer Carr and veteran ZSC goalkeeper Niklas Schlegel shone.
Bern 2-0 Ambri
Unlike the Lions, SC Bern started the new season with flying colors. In the premiere of SCB coach Don Nachbaur, the middle third was decisive. First came Edmonton on loan from Gaëtan Haas, who made it 1-0 in the 14th minute with a superb individual performance.
In the 36th minute, Bern’s Vincent Praplan had to shower early after a gang control. In the next five-minute majority, Ambri was unsuccessful and instead conceded 0: 2 a second before Dustin Jeffrey’s siren. Tomi Karhunen celebrated a shutout on SCB’s goal.
Freiburg – Lakers 2: 1
The Lakers lost the first game of the season for the fifth time in a row in the National League. In the loss at Friborg-Gottéron, St. Galler failed time and time again to goalkeeper Reto Berra. The Freiburg goalkeeper showed 25 parades in the newly opened BFC Arena and only had to admit defeat to Roman Cervenka 78 seconds before the end. The guest did not have enough time to balance the game. Goals for the home team were scored by David Desharnais (15th) and Yannick Herren (31st).
Lausanne – Tigers 5: 2
For the ninth time in their last ten seasons in the National League, the Tigers lost early. In Lausanne, Julian Schmutz (35th) and Ben Maxwell (43rd) were able to cut to 1: 2 and 2: 3 respectively. Compensation never wanted to fall. After Fabian Heldner (52nd) from Lausanne scored to make it 4-2, the match was finally decided at the Vaudoise Arena.
