Swiss chipmaker Zweifel is boycotting German discount chains Aldi and Lidl. For a long time, they have been trying to include the chips in their range, as reported by the “SonntagsBlick”. Discount stores are not only expecting increased sales, but also more “Swissness.”
“Yes, that is correct. We have been trying for years to offer our customers Doubt chips. So far, it has unfortunately not worked,” discounter Aldi told “SonntagsBlick”.
“Interested in doubt tokens”
“We can confirm that we are primarily interested in Doubt chips. And think that these would complement our existing offering well, ”explained Lidl.
“As one of the most popular Swiss brands, it is very important to us. We want our products to be available wherever our consumers are. Whether in retail, at the gas station, at the kiosk or at the restaurant, ”Duda said on the matter.
Swiss partner complies
And then all of a sudden it happened quickly. “After the SonntagsBlick article, we had a lot of customer inquiries about whether it would not be possible to include Doubt Chips in the range,” Aldi spokesperson Thomas Liechti tells BLICK.
Then a solution was found with a long-standing Swiss partner to add Zweifel chips to the range in eastern Switzerland as a first step. From October 5 they will be there on the shelves. And: “We continue in conversation with doubts because we want to offer the chips throughout the country,” continues the spokesperson.
Lidl stay tuned
At Lidl there are undoubtedly still chips on the shelf, as a look at BLICK has shown. “No, nothing has changed in recent weeks when it comes to Doubt Chips,” says a Lidl spokeswoman.
“We have a business association with the company, even if we don’t have the Zweifel chips in our range,” he says. And: “We offer our customers a wide range of own-brand products for chips and snacks.”
