Colombian Rolando Visbal was actually fishing on Saturday when something else hit his net: a few kilometers off the coast of the city of Puerto Colombia, he discovered a woman floating in the water. He and his companion were able to get them out of the sea, a video shows the rescue. “I was born again, God did not want me to die”, were his first words.
The woman was alive but very weak. It is said that she was in the water for about eight hours. Visbal also later described the rescue on Facebook as a “miracle of God.” Because it turned out that the rescued was Angélica Gaitán (46); she had been missing for about two years. Her family had no idea where she was.
Escape from abuse
As “La Libertad” writes, her family last heard from her in 2018. After Gaitán was taken ashore, she told authorities that she had escaped the physical and mental abuse of her husband. She also revealed that she wanted to kill herself, which is why she jumped into the water. It is not clear where she spent the previous two years.
The local media located Gaitán’s daughter. She said that she was currently collecting money to transport her mother to the capital, Bogotá, where the family would take care of the mother. (support)
