The new quarantine list from the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) is valid as of today. Travelers from Portugal and parts of Italy must now remain in isolation for ten days after their return. But many Swiss accept the restrictions thanks to flexible working hours.
“We see that many of our guests travel despite the BAG list,” confirms Tui spokeswoman Bianca Schmidt. They claim that they work from home after their vacation and thus save the quarantine, she explains.
Don’t panic about Corona
Tui is not the only travel agency to make this observation. With Hotelplan there are also other reasons that allow the traveler to relax. “There are, for example, clients who are already retired and for whom quarantine is not a problem,” said spokeswoman Bianca Gähweiler.
However, if a new reservation is requested, preferably to “safe” destinations such as the Greek islands, Turkey or Egypt, explains Gähweiler.
Travel inspires contagion
Travel remains the central issue driving the spread of the coronavirus. And it would often be easy to give up the trip. Very few are left with the costs. Tour packages can still be canceled free of charge.
This offer is especially popular with travelers to Portugal. “Take the trip at a later date or choose another destination,” says Markus Flick, spokesman for Kuoni Reisen. The most popular alternative destinations are also here: Turkey, Greece or Egypt.
Winter should bring relaxation
Despite everything, travel agencies hope to expand their portfolio in the near future. Many people head south in the winter months. Possible long-term goals could become an option again.
“The chances for the Seychelles and South Africa are currently good,” says Schmidt von Tui.
