Different moods among Mercedes drivers after the Formula 1 GP in Sochi: As the punished Lewis Hamilton vent his anger, the winner Valtteri Bottas sent the critics a clear message.

Dominator Lewis Hamilton deprived himself of the opportunity to set Michael Schumacher’s record of 91 GP victories on Sunday. Twice in the warm-up lap, the Englishman completes his usual test start at an undesignated spot on the track and is sanctioned twice by the stewards with a five-second penalty.

The result: Hamilton sits down during the pit stop for the tire change and is now back to 11th place. Thanks to the brave race to catch up, still enough for third place at the end of the race, little consolation for Hamilton.

Hamilton’s suspicion

“There has never been a problem about it. I did nothing more than other weekends. I always start a little later than normal. I don’t want to start where everyone starts, because there is too much rubber there, and that is not comparable to the starting position, ”explains the 35-year-old after the race.

Therefore, he does not understand the punishment pronounced. “That is an interesting decision from the race direction. In my opinion, a driver has never been fined for something like this and the suspicion arises that we are being stopped. It is not the first time either ”, suggests the undisputed leader of the World Cup. For Hamilton, it is the fourth time this year that he has been prosecuted by the race management.

Valterri Bottas will benefit from the relocation of his teammate on Sunday as he can claim his second win of the season, despite the worst possible start to the race. “I tried to overtake at first, but then I got hit by a giant bee or something. That irritated me and I lost the corner a bit, ”says the Finn.

Bottas Abandonment

But he did not lose his calm and knew that many things could still happen. “Then Lewis got the penalty, I finally got a free ride. My pace was good and I was in control. I never give up, and that paid off today. I won’t leave it for a second. This world championship fight is not over yet, ”Bottas tells his teammate about the fight.

Bottas’ relief can be seen immediately after crossing the finish line. For a short time until he breaks his neck, he speaks unequivocally to his critics through the pit radio: “A message for all my critics and for all who feel directed: Fuck you!”

When asked about it at the press conference, the Finn explains his verbal neglect. “It came from within. I don’t want to call it frustration, but it was a bit stressful. He was often so close to victory and now it finally worked. Of course I was lucky, but now I’ve earned it. “

Failure to govern costs Hamilton the winning record: Bottas forward

Valtteri Bottas wins the Russian Grand Prix for the second time. The Finn wins at Mercedes ahead of Max Verstappen at Red Bull and his teammate Lewis Hamilton.
