The initiative requires the city government to take action against the “Spange Nord” and make alternative proposals to solve the traffic problems. The parliament and the city council supported the initiative and described it as an opportunity for a new beginning in Lucerne’s transport policy and in the relationship between the city and the canton.

Criticisms of the slimmed down variant

The canton had significantly resized the project in autumn 2019, also after criticism from the city of Lucerne. A bridge over the Reuss is still planned.

But the resized solution also received criticism. Proponents argue that the current variant still means massive cuts in neighborhoods that are threatened by unreasonable pollution.

The St. Karli school building can be renovated

The renovation and expansion of the St. Karli school complex was also clearly accepted. The proportion of votes in favor is 86.97 percent. This means that the St. Karli school building can be converted and expanded for 22 million francs.
