None of the four candidates achieved an absolute majority. A second vote is required.
Davos residents had four people to choose from for their new Landammann or their new Landammann wife: Peter Engler (FDP), Christian Stricker (independent), Valérie Favre Accola (SVP) and Philipp Wilhelm (SP). They all fought for the seat of Tarzisius Caviezel, who announced his resignation earlier in the year. And none of them achieved that absolute more.
SP candidate Wilhelm Philipp got the most votes with 1,419 out of 4,332 votes. The absolute majority was 2,167 votes. Peter Engler was just behind Wilhelm, with 114 votes down. The head of the Lenzerheide mountain railways was there to defend the Landammann headquarters for the FDP.
There is no second vote for weavers
With 1,177 votes, SVP’s Valérie Favre Accola came in third place. Non-partisan Christian Stricker is defeated with 312 votes. It was withdrawing for the second ballot and was no longer available, Stricker said upon request.
The second ballot for the Landammann elections in Davos will take place on November 29.
