“If I am very lucky, I will also do it this time,” said Luzi Stamm (SVP) when he announced his candidacy for the city of Baden out of nowhere. The idea for this came from a former FC Wettingen colleague (Read more about it here).
The “great luck” was not in the boisterous National Council. On the contrary. He has to suffer an uncontrolled defeat: he only received 564 votes. However, he was still a killjoy: his two competitors also failed, due to the absolute majority, which was 3,398 votes.

The official candidate supported by the SVP, Stefan Jaecklin (FDP), received 2849 votes, Benjamin Steiner of the Baden team, who belongs to the green left spectrum, won 3345, but it was not enough for the elections. The turnout was 58 percent.
Luzi Stamm admits frankly: “It is a very clear result.” And on Sunday night she announced that she was withdrawing her candidacy: “Exercise canceled.”
Interesting starting position
The second vote will be on November 29 and the starting point is interesting. Since Stamm is no longer running, the majority of his votes will likely go to the middle-class candidate. This would be practically on par with its competitor.
However, the tribe, which is deeply rooted in Baden, has probably also received several votes from people who otherwise would not have voted.
She was the successor to non-partisan Sandra Kohler, who resigned after two and a half years in office.
