In the second game on Saturday night, Zurich and Lugano play 2-2.
Finally, the Young Boys knot in Valais seemed to have been broken. More than an hour had been played on the tourbillon when Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu scored 1-0 for the guests after strong control of the ball. The ball was already back at the faceoff when VAR informed referee Alain Bieri. The reason: before Ngamaleu had the leather on his feet, Christian Fassnacht touched the ball with his arm: handball and goal annulment.
In the final minutes, the home team went a long way back and let YB go. In injury time it was really dangerous again. Following a Bern corner kick, Sion goalkeeper Kevin Fickentscher saved Vincent Sierro, who slammed the margin into the post. It stayed 0-0.
Teams that enjoy playing
But the result didn’t do the game justice. Already in the first round, both teams were able to inspire the Valais crowd with attractive attacking football. Despite the tough pace of both teams, there were excellent opportunities:
- 29. Minute: David von Ballmoos Brilliant Parade. Geoffroy Serey is not tackled in offensive midfield and simply shoots from about 30 yards. The YB goalie can simply direct the bullet over the crossbar.
- 31. Minute: On the other hand, Fassnacht should take the lead. After a perfectly played counterattack, the Bernese finds himself alone against Fickentscher, but hits the crossbar with his setter.
- 45. + 1 minute: In injury time of the first half, Itaitinga takes the supposed advantage. The Zion started from offside.
Hoarau with Sion’s debut
Another highlight was undoubtedly the replacement of Guillaume Hoarau (65th). The veteran YB player made his debut in the Sion suit against his former club. Only in minute 84 did the Frenchman stand out with an action in the penalty area, which was cleared by the Bernese defense.
So it goes
For Sion it is the first point of this season, Valais can temporarily break away from the bottom of the table and face Lugano in the next round. YB disappoints for the first time and welcomes Vaduz newcomers next week.
