BVB appears surprisingly in Augsburg: Schalke has no chance against Bremen either
Rivals of defending champion Bayern Munich lost points in the second round of the Bundesliga. This hurt Borussia Dortmund more. Lucien Favre’s team lost 2-0 in Augsburg.
Augsburg 2-0 Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund conceded an unexpected 2-0 defeat to feared rival Augsburg. Despite a lot of ownership and countless closings, BVB cannot handle anything accounting. Augsburg is completely different: Before the break, Felix Uduokhai meets a standard to make it 1-0 for Augsburg, who must compete without the injured Ruben Vargas.
Ten minutes after the restart, Daniel Caligiuri escaped the BVB defense. With the second shot on goal, the 32-year-old Italian made it 2-0 for former Dortmunders Heiko Herrlich’s team. As a result, there was little from Lucien Favre’s team, and the championship candidate submitted to his fate with virtually no resistance.
Coach Lucien Favre is still trying to take corrective action, but substitutions for Julian Brandt, Marco Reus and the talented Brazilian Reinier are not working. Unlike in January, when Dortmund scored a 5-3 win in Augsburg after the break from a 1: 3 deficit thanks to three goals from Erling Haaland, this time the game is finally lost without a sound. And so, at least until Sunday, not Dortmund, but Augsburg is the new leader of the Bundesliga.

Schalke – Bremen 1: 3
At the bottom of the table is the beleaguered Schalke, who also failed in the home opener a week after 8-0 away at Bayern Munich. Against Werder Bremen he sets a 1: 3 in the empty arena. So Schalke expect a Bundesliga win even after 253 days. It was the 18th unsuccessful championship game and the fifth loss in a row. For Werder Bremen, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, forward Niclas Füllkrug scores all three goals. Mark Uth only scored Schalke’s connecting goal in injury time.

Leverkusen – Leipzig 1: 1
Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig drew 1-1 in the top game of the second round of the Bundesliga. Emil Forsberg brings the visitors to Leipzig in the 14th minute with an excellent 1-0 individual performance, but Kerem Demirbay achieves the level for Leverkusen only slightly later. Bayer 04 have a bit more of the game after that but don’t want to score the winning goal.

Gladbach – Union Berlin 1: 1
Borussia Mönchengladbach fights against Union Berlin for a long time, only ten minutes after the restart Marcus Thuram breaks the spell after a corner kick. The burly forward wins the minute and winks at the 1-0 loser. After that, however, the “colts” fold too far and so Urs Fischer’s team tied in the 80th minute through Keven Schlotterbeck at 1: 1.
For Gladbach, this draw feels like a defeat. The team with Swiss internationals Yann Sommer and Nico Elvedi only have one point after two games.

Mainz – Stuttgart 1: 4
Newcomers VfB Stuttgart celebrate their first win of the season in Mainz. Although the Suebi fell 0: 1 early on a goal from Robin Quaison, Silas Wamangituka and Daniel Didavi turned the game around until the 55th minute without much effort. Then Diego Klimowicz and Sasa Kalajdzic meet for the guests. The VfB victory is fine even at this point, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team is tactically more variable and in the end much more efficient.

Bielefeld 1-0 Cologne
With Arminia Bielefeld, the second climber celebrates the first victory of the season. Against 1. FC Köln, which still doesn’t make sense, a late goal from boatman Joan Simun Edmundsson is enough for a narrow but not undeserved victory. With four points from two games, the “Armines”, in which Cédric Brunner played, are the surprise of the young season so far, together with Augsburg.
