Bloody attack on Friday at lunchtime near the old office of the satirical magazine “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris. Two people were seriously injured. The police asked the population to avoid the area of the 11th district.
The injured are two journalists: an employee and an employee of the “Premières Lignes” production company, which works for the France 2 channel, among others. The production company co-produced a documentary about the attacks on Charlie Hebdo’s editorial team.
It happened during the smoke break
The office of “Prémieres Lignes” is located in the immediate vicinity of the former editorial office of “Charlie Hebdo”, which was moved to a secret location after the 2015 attack. The two journalists were attacked with a machete on Friday during a break to smoke.
An employee of the production company said according to “Le Parisien”: “One of our employees saw a man with a butcher knife or a machete running after one of our employees who was already injured and covered in blood.
According to media reports, two suspects were arrested. A first suspect was arrested near the Place de la Bastille. The second person was reportedly arrested near the Richard-Lenoir metro station, near the crime scene.
Call an emergency meeting
The authorities suspect a terrorist attack: the Paris antiterrorist prosecutor confirmed this Friday to the German press agency that they were investigating. French Prime Minister Jean Castex has called an emergency meeting.
Castex underlined the government’s willingness to “fight terrorism by all means”. There is currently a trial in Paris against alleged supporters of the terrorist series in January 2015, in which the editorial staff of “Charlie Hebdo” was attacked; at that time twelve people died. The magazine recently published cartoons of Mohammed again, and as a result, she was threatened again. (SDA / bra / noo)
