When it comes to fighting the corona pandemic, federalism is having a hard time: seven out of ten people are in favor of mandatory masking in closed public spaces. And above all, the participants want uniform rules for all of Switzerland.
These are the results of a study carried out on behalf of the “Migros Magazine”. Consequently, 68 percent of the 1,031 people surveyed representatively favor mandatory masking in closed public spaces. 67 percent are confused about the different provisions from one canton to another.
Skepticism about vaccination and authority
The high proportion of vaccine skeptics is surprising. Only 41 percent said they would be vaccinated as soon as the Federal Office of Public Health approves a vaccine. Only one in two people surveyed has confidence in the authorities that they will act correctly and with a sense of proportion in the crown crisis.
Twenty percent believe the authorities have overreacted, and men in particular say so. 28 percent said democratic rights were at risk. Only one in five is confident that the crisis will end soon.
Only a minority feel the economic consequences
37 percent of those surveyed fear the infection and its consequences. In French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino this fear is much more pronounced than in German Switzerland. Women are more afraid of it than men and city dwellers more than people who live in the countryside.
28 percent are affected by the economic consequences of the crisis or have the corresponding fears, so that Latin Switzerland is also noted here with a greater potential for concern. 36 percent have the opportunity to work from home, especially those with a high level of education. (SDA / koh)
