Jayoung Lee, 38, slipped into a coma after giving birth to her son on March 9. She was very pregnant, shortly before giving birth, infected with the coronavirus. She got sick and coughed up blood just before going into labor. She gave birth to her son with severe shortness of breath and a fever.
The newborn was not infected and was separated from his mother immediately after birth. Jayoung Lee’s condition dramatically worsened afterward. Her lungs collapsed, she was ventilated, then she was placed in an artificial coma and transferred to the Charité in Berlin. Doctors told her husband to prepare for the worst.
The mother only has half of her lung capacity left
There the doctors fought for the mother’s life for 30 days. Then you can wake Jayoung Lee from the coma. “A doctor said that he would never be the same as before,” the survivor of the crown tells “Bild.” Your lungs are only about half the capacity they had before corona disease.
Today it is clear that pregnant women belong to the corona risk group. A total of 75 days after the birth, and her struggle to survive, Jayoung Lee is allowed to hug her son. She barely managed to muster the strength to do so.
The first crown test was not evaluated
What happened before the birth is a scandal. Jayoung Lee was tested for the corona virus, but the smear was not evaluated in a Berlin clinic. “Doctors said my smear had not been evaluated because I had no Covid contacts or been in a risk zone,” he says.
When he was admitted to the hospital due to his health, he was tested again. This time the test is also evaluated. The result: positive. She had a Covid contact: her husband.

He returned from Italy in early March. However, from a region that was not yet considered a risk zone at the time. He developed a fever and vomited. Her family doctor ruled this out as the flu. This error in judgment nearly cost his wife her life.
