On Friday there will be a discussion in the SRF “Arena” about the occupation of the Bundeshausplatz by activists, but without the planned representation of the Swiss climate movement, the medical student Hanna Fischer. The Climate Youth announced this today on Twitter. The reason was another guest of the «Arena»: Roger Köppel. The editor-in-chief of “Weltwoche” has been agitating against the strikers, especially Greta Thunberg, since the start of the climate strike. She described them as child soldiers and compared their movement to the Crusades.
The climate strikers emphasize in their message that one likes to talk to people with different opinions. However, the discussion must take place on a “scientific basis”, something that would not have been possible with Köppel. In such a framework, the discussion does not lead to overcoming the climate crisis or to public discourse. The cancellation came after several discussions with those responsible for the “Arena”. From the perspective of the climate strikers, SRF has a responsibility to no longer offer a platform for “anti-science positions.” Just as the BBC has been doing for several years.

The President of the Greens Balthasar Glättli and the National Council of the Zürich FDP and the leader of the parliamentary group Beat Walti will also appear as guests. The mayor of Bern, Alec von Graffenried, is connected by video. Meanwhile, Roger Köppel has commented on the refusal to speak on Twitter. The “climate law breakers” did not want to face any serious discussion and did not tolerate any contradictions.
The presenter of “Arena” Sandro Brotz regrets the decision of the climate youth and emphasizes that the broadcast will still take place on Friday. A replacement for climate activist Fischer has already been found: the head of the Socialist Youth, Ronja Jansen, has agreed to participate, as “dangerous people like Köppel must stand up.”
