On Wednesday afternoon around 15,000 liters of liquid fertilizer leaked from a tanker truck on the A1 motorway near Oberbuchsiten SW. According to the police, there were significant delays in traffic for several hours.
For unknown reasons, a tanker truck window came loose around 11:30 a.m., Solothurn canton police announced Wednesday. Liquid fermentation sludge from a biogas plant was then dumped onto the highway and the adjacent green strip.
Spread over several 100 meters
When the opening was closed again, about 15,000 liters had been filtered. They were distributed over several 100 meters of the right lane and the breakdown lane. No one was injured.
Traffic could pass through the affected area in only one lane. However, there was a traffic jam several kilometers long.
The liquid fertilizer remaining in the tank was pumped into another vehicle. The Swiss National Highway Maintenance Service Northwest (NSNW) cleaned the lanes and sewer shafts. The Oberbuchsiten fire brigade and the Solothurn Canton Environment Office were also in action. Around 2:45 p.m., the route was cleared, police wrote.
