The two cases occurred in late July and mid-September 2020: a complaint was filed for suspicious contact and sexual acts with children. The center of attention for the canton of Zurich police was an unknown man who allegedly sexually harassed and coerced a nine and six year old girl.
Investigations and information on the suspect led to a Winterthur City Police district officer recognizing the man and eventually arresting him. In a first interrogation by the responsible prosecutor, the detainee confessed. It is now becoming clear whether the 43-year-old Swiss has committed similar crimes.
Procedures started
The Zurich prosecutor’s office opened a case against the man and requested pretrial detention before the mandatory measures court. However, until a final conviction, the presumption of innocence applies.
The background and the exact course of the crime are the subject of further joint investigations by the Zurich canton police and the prosecution service. (support)
