The planned wooden high-speed railway between Pratteln and the Roman city of Augusta Raurica will not be built. Baselbiet building and environmental protection director Isaac Reber (Greens) suspended the project following allegations of felt.
The project will no longer be carried out because implementation by summer 2022 would appear unrealistic under these circumstances, the Basel-based department for environmental and building protection announced on Tuesday. The presentation proposed by the district will not apply.
Presented just two weeks ago
Reber regrets this step, but can understand that the personal constellation surrounding the project has led to criticism, he says in the statement. Reber and the Federal Highway Office (Astra) presented the project for electric cyclists between Pratteln and the Roman city of Augusta Raurica just two weeks ago.
After the project was introduced, allegations were raised about felt. In addition to “Häring”, the company “Urb-X” commissioned the construction of the Velohochbahn with a study contract at a total cost of CHF 130,000.
Behind the start-up is Klaus Kirchmayr, leader of the Baselbieter Greens parliamentary group and friend of Reber’s party until the end of November. In the past, Kirchmayr had advocated for a Velo express route network. Balint Csontos, President of Basel Greens, is also a member of the startup.
