In a collision between a passenger car and a truck, a car driver suffered fatal injuries on Monday morning (September 21, 2020) in Rafz. The truck driver was unhurt.
At around 7:20 a.m., a 23-year-old driver drove down Schaffhauserstrasse towards the Rafz-Solgen border crossing. Shortly before Rafz’s departure, for reasons unknown at the time, his vehicle slid into the opposite lane and there was a violent head-on collision with an oncoming truck. The driver suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident. The 59-year-old trucker was unharmed.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been clarified and is being investigated by the Zurich Canton Police and the Winterthur / Unterland Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition to the Zurich canton police, the police from the city of Bülach, the fire brigade of Rafz-Wil, a rescue team from the Bülach hospital and a legal inspector were on duty.
The Rafz-Wil fire brigade has closed the Schaffhauserstrasse in both directions due to the accident. Traffic was diverted.
