Roche now sells the corona rapid test. The so-called rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test is now available in markets that accept the CE mark. The pharmaceutical giant announced this Monday. Both the EU and Switzerland accept this mark of conformity. Therefore, the test can be marketed in Europe.
The rapid test is intended for people with and without corona symptoms. The test detects if someone has a crown. The biggest advantage: the results are available in 15 minutes.
The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) does not currently recommend the new tests because they have not yet been validated (reported BLICK). BLICK from BAG has not yet been able to find out if the CE mark is sufficient for validation. A corresponding request remains unanswered.
Roche also wants to go to the US.
As Roche had already announced, the group also intends to seek emergency approval from the US health authorities.
Roche CEO Severin Schwan (52) also sent a message to the public on Monday. “Go to the doctor,” Schwan appeals to the SDA news agency. As before, too many patients would postpone doctor visits or therapy for fear of Covid-19. This not only poses a threat to individual patients, but also has far-reaching consequences for healthcare systems, according to Schwan. (lui / pbe)
