The Serb has to bite the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the first set of the semifinals, but clearly prevails at the end.
Novak Djokovic is the name of the first finalist of the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome. The world number 1 won in the semifinals against 21-year-old Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP 34) 7: 5, 6: 3.
Especially in the first set, Djokovic showed great difficulty with his opponent and had to defend himself from two set balls. In the end, however, he got the upper hand. After 2:11 hours, the Serbian used his third match ball to reach the final, the tenth in the “Eternal City”.
In the final, Djokovic will face Diego Schwartzman (ATP 15) on Monday. The Argentine, who surprisingly eliminated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, prevailed after a tough fight with 6: 4, 5: 7, 7: 6 (7: 4) against Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP 14).
