Environmental activists occupied the Bundesplatz in Bern on Monday morning. This was confirmed by climate activist Frida Kohlmann of the climate movement in front of BLICK. The canton of Bern police operations center also confirmed the action. According to her own statements, several hundred protesters have gathered at the Bundesplatz. This while the National Council meets on Monday in the Federal Palace for the fall session.
Climate protection activists previously announced that they would occupy the Bundesplatz in Bern this morning and set up a protest camp. The actions are carried out in “protest against the political and economic system responsible for the climate crisis,” says a statement from the climate movement.
The activists have also invited other citizens to come to the Bundesplatz and join the protest against the climate crisis.
Action that lasts for days
About a year ago, the climate event took place in Bern, also on the Bundesplatz, with one hundred thousand participants, the largest event in Swiss history. However, nothing has happened since then, climate activists say. “Ignorance on the part of decision-makers is unbearable in view of the worsening situation,” said climate activist Kohlmann.
With the occupation of the Bundesplatz and the planned establishment of a protest camp, “concerts, films, workshops and talks” will also be offered. The “Stand Up For Change” week of action should last until September 25. (kes / SDA)
