The response was excellent when the SRF pulled out of Michael Elsener’s (35) “Late Update” program last year. However, the comedian held back from criticism after his dismissal. In an interview with “Switzerland at the weekend” now reveals that the end surprised him. Because in the fall he was asked to reserve the air dates for 2020. After all, after a guarantee from the SRF, he even canceled his tour because of this. The bad news was even worse.
“It was a shock for an artist for whom appearances are enough to secure his livelihood,” says Elsener. Not for nothing did he say goodbye to the SRF with a “free take out” poster on Instagram: “I felt a bit like a used sofa lying on the side of the road”.
It also received no comment from the SRF about its end. “Due to the fact that SRF is a communication company, communication there does not really work in a transparent way,” criticizes Elsener. Decisions go through several hierarchical levels, so you have to wait a long time for a response. “Ultimately, no one could tell me exactly how a decision was actually made.”
New program thanks to blocking
But now Elsener looks to the future. During Corona’s forced hiatus, she worked on a new stage show. In it, the public expects more depth. On the new show, Elsener would like to talk about how society should counter right-wing extremism in the future. Thanks to the confinement, she had time to deal with it intensely. “Now I was able to gain some humor from the subject.” (bnr)
